Mike: Which presentation of yours is a “can’t miss” session that Kaleidoscope attendees should plan on attending, and why?
Mark: “My session this year at Kaleidoscope is entitled “Inside the Oracle BI Server”, and I’ll be taking a closer look at this key element within the Oracle BI EE technology stack. The BI Server is responsible for turning incoming queries from a dashboard into one or more SQL and MDX queries against data sources, and in particular I’ll be describing the process that takes place when two or more data sources are joined “in-memory” by the BI Server. As this data federation capability is one of the key differentiating factors for OBIEE, developers should come along to this session to find out just what goes on when a query gets processed by the BI Server.”
Mike: Who else should Kaleidoscope attendees plan on seeing a session from, and why?
Mark: “There are a number of great BI, data warehousing, ETL and Essbase sessions at this year’s Kaleidoscope, including one from Francois-Xavier Nicolas on “Oracle Data Integrator 11g – New Features and Directions“, another by Alan Fuller on “Oracle OBIEE Metadata Modeling Best Practices and Tips for Concurrent Development” and one I’m particularly looking forward to, David Allan’s “Implement Right-Time Data Loading with Oracle Warehouse Builder“. David is one of the key architects behind Oracle Warehouse Builder and Oracle Data Integrator, and this is a unique opportunity to hear the rationale behind new OWB 11gR2 functionality direct from one of the product designers.”
Mike: What differentiates Kaleidoscope as a conference from other conferences
out there?
Mark: What differentiates Kaleidoscope is that it’s all about tools, and its all about practical solutions. No other conference focuses entirely on tools, has such a strong BI content stream, and brings together so many other BI tools technologists into one place.”
Mike: If you’ve been to Washington before, can you recommend one thing that a first time visitor should take advantage of while visiting during Kaleidoscope?
Mark: “Kaleidoscope this year is just before Fourth of July weekend, so if you can stay for the weekend after the conference be sure to head down to the Mall where I’m sure there’s probably be a few celebrations going on. If you’ve never been to DC before you’ll have to go and visit sights such as the Capitol, the Lincoln Memorial and the White House, and what with their being a national holiday the weekend after the conference, it’ll probably be great chance to see DC at its best.”
Mike: Can you tell us what your best memory is from a Kaleidoscope conference that you’ve attended previously?
Mark: “Watching the World Cup in the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel back at Kaleidoscope 2006 with delegates from around the world. I’m looking forward to this again at Kaleidoscope 2010, and hopefully this year England will end up winning it!”
