ODTUG Kscope – An “Idea Meet Market”

patrick-cimolini.jpgStarting the run up to ODTUG Kscope11, I’ll posting interviews of some interesting folks that you should know better, and asking them some questions and answers that I will be featuring in this blog regularly.  This time, I had the opportunity to ask Patrick Cimolini, veteran ODTUG Member, attendee and presenter at several of the ODTUG Kaleidoscope conferences in the past.  Patrick is also one of the co-authors of the upcoming Apress book “Beginning Oracle Application Express 4” (along with Doug GaultKaren CannellTim St. Hilaire, and Martin Giffy D’Souza (all presenters at this year’s Kscope conference).  Patrick also stepped forward to put his name in for the most recent ODTUG Board elections, and while not successful, Patrick has shown his willingness to step forward and give back to the organization.

So, here are the questions and answers that Patrick shared with me.

MR: What is the best thing about Kscope conferences?

PC: “Learning! I learn from the formal presentations. I learn from the presenters over coffee and beer.  I learn from my fellow attendees over more coffee and beer.  Everyone at the conference shares tips, tricks and insights.  Kscope is an “idea meet market”.

MR: Who do you most look forward to seeing a presentation from at Kscope and why?

PC: “This is a tough question.  Scott SpendoliniSteven Feuerstein and Paul Dorsey come immediately to mind.  I highly recommend buying Bryn Llewellyn a pint or two and get him going on a “shaggy dog” story (there is more to Bryn than PL/SQL).”

MR: Why Kscope and not somewhere else?

PC: “Kscope tells it like it is from the developer’s perspective.  You find out what technology works and what doesn’t work.”

MR: Have you ever been to Long Beach or visited the Queen Mary?

PC: “Nope. Looking forward to it.”

MR: Your all time favorite Kscope moment is…

PC: “…going to Scott Spendolini’s presentation six years ago on HTML_DB (Now APEX) in New Orleans.  I didn’t know it at the time, but it turned out to be a career and life changing moment.”

Thanks for your time Patrick! I hope this series of posts will help give you a feel for ODTUG Kscope, and give you some compelling reasons for attending.  Early Bird registration runs through March 25, 2011.

For more information, visit the Kscope 11 website.

If you register, tell them you heard about the conference on the ODTUG Blog!
