9:45 - 10:45 a.m.

Transitioning from APEX 4 to 5: Time for a Huge Monitor
ACE Director Scott Spendolini, Accenture

With APEX 5 right around the corner, it’s time to start getting ready for a whole new development environment: the Page Designer view. This new view looks and feels like more traditional desktop-based IDEs, and can be intimidating to both new and seasoned APEX developers alike. However, with a little guidance, the benefits of it can be realized almost immediately.

This session will explore APEX 5’s new Page Designer view in detail, including the new methodologies used. It will also highlight how specific workflows in APEX 4 are now achieved in APEX 5, making transition for existing APEX developers easier.

Love and Marriage ! Oracle Application Express and Oracle E-Business Suite
ACEFrancis Mignault and Sylvain Martin,  Insum Solutions

Oracle Application Express is a rapid web application development tool that provides the qualities of an enterprise solution for security, integrity, scalability, and availability. Built for the web, it’s the ideal platform for developing extensions with Oracle E-Business Suite. Starting with Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.1.3, integration between Oracle Application Express and Oracle E-Business Suite 12 has been improved, facilitates compliance with authentication and data security, and provides users with a seamless experience. This session reviews the technical requirements of such an integration and demonstrates a few examples of extensions organizations are able to create with Oracle Application Express.

Top 10 APEX APIs
ACE DirectorMartin D’Souza, Clarifit

APEX has a lot of excellent APIs. These APIs, for both PL/SQL and JavaScript, can help extend your application and improve your development. This presentation will cover some of the most useful APIs (both documented and undocumented) that are available.

Deploying Oracle REST Data Services and REST Enabling your Schema Objects with Oracle SQL Developer and Oracle REST Data Services
Jeff Smith, Oracle Corporation

Making your Oracle data accessible to your web applications has never been easier. Automatic REST enablement of your objects is now available with the latest releases of SQL Developer and ORDS. This presentation will show how one can install and configure ORDS completely from the SQL Developer user interface. You will then be shown how to define REST API endpoints for your tables and views – create, query, update, and delete.

As a fun bonus, you’ll also see how to mass INSERT new records by sending comma separated values (CSV) data to ORDS.

Oracle Application Express 5.0 Plug-In Enhancements
Patrick Maniraho, Oracle Corporation

IOT = Internet + Oracle APEX + Things
ACEAnton Nielsen, C2 Consulting

Machine-to-machine communication will soon consume more Internet bandwidth than human-to-human and human-to-machine. Each day, more machines go online, from coffee makers to front-end loaders. Explore this new landscape by interacting with a machine via an APEX application. We will build a physical device and develop an APEX application to report on data collected from the machine and control its behavior. We will demonstrate how to communicate with the device via ORDS, APEX, and PL/SQL.

Transitioning to Oracle Application Express 5.0
Marc Sewtz, Oracle Corporation

Oracle Application Express 5.0 introduces many new features that enable you to quickly build modern and beautiful HTML5 applications. The new Universal Theme implements current design trends and utilizing the new declarative template options, puts powerful CSS3 techniques at your fingertips.

In this session we will look at what Oracle Application Express 5.0 will mean for your existing applications. What changes should you expect after the upgrade? How can you take advantage of features like the responsive grid, new modal dialogs or the new calendar component and how do you make the switch to the new Universal Theme? Using some of the packaged apps included with Oracle Application Express 4.2 as examples, we’ll demonstrate step by step, how to transition these apps to Oracle Application Express 5.0.

APEX 5 Security Primer
ACE Director
Scott Spendolini, Sumneva

APEX is one of the fastest way to build and deploy a web application based on the Oracle Database.  But before jumping into this technology, it’s important to have a basic understanding of how to do it securely.

Designed for those just starting out with or wanting to learn more about APEX, this session will outline the basics of the security constructs that are embedded in Oracle Application Express.  It will cover how user management in APEX works, authentication, how to secure pages and components, and provide an overview of APEX’s architecture.

A Multitenant SaaS APEX Case Study
ACEAnton Nielsen, C2 Consulting

Have you have developed an application for one department in the organization and then need to install it for other departments. Do you have a hosted application that needs to be available to new customers immediately. Oracle Virtual Private Database (VPD) was designed to allow this in a single data store. This presentation will demonstrate all of the required components required: Webserver configuration, Data Model, VPD Policies and APEX application configurations.
