Architecture Live: Cloud Data Warehousing in an On-Premises World -

Cloud data warehousing is not a new concept, but why is a data warehouse built for the cloud so much different than its on-premises predecessors? In this “Architecture Live” session, you’ll hear from two industry experts as they describe the current state of on-premises data warehousing, including the good, the bad, and the ugly. Then they’ll dive into what makes a cloud data warehouse architecture so much different and more effective. With input from the audience, they’ll draw up and discuss each architecture “live.” Examples of various cloud data warehouse technologies will be described, including Oracle Autonomous DW, Snowflake, and others. Attendees will leave empowered with knowledge that will help prepare them for the future of data warehousing.

No More Silos: Integrating Databases and Apache Kafka - Robin Moffat of Confluent
Companies new and old are all recognizing the importance of a low-latency, scalable, fault-tolerant data backbone in the form of the Apache Kafka streaming platform. With Kafka, developers can integrate multiple sources and systems, which enables low-latency analytics, event-driven architectures, and the population of multiple downstream systems.
In this talk we’ll look at one of the most common integration requirements—connecting databases to Kafka. We’ll consider the concept that all data is a stream of events, including that which resides within a database. We’ll look at why we’d want to stream data from a database, including driving applications in Kafka from events upstream. We’ll discuss the different methods for connecting databases to Kafka, and the pros and cons of each. Techniques including Change-Data-Capture (CDC) and Kafka Connect will be covered, as will an exploration of the power of KSQL for performing transformations such as joins on the inbound data.

All You Need to Know About Data Integration Platform Cloud - Jérôme Françoisse of Oracle A-Team
Data Integration Platform Cloud (DIPC) is the cloud service bringing all the data integration products together while providing an extra layer to create tasks more easily than ever before. It can be used for traditional data integration jobs but also to replicate data to Kafka, to offload data to ADWC, to build a data lake, or to set up a bidirectional replication between two databases and create an active/active highly available environment. DIPC also answers punctual use cases like a zero-downtime migration of a database. Let's dive in and learn about all the functionalities included and the use cases DIPC can address.

About Becky Wagner – The Big Data and Data Warehousing Track Lead at ODTUG Kscope19
Becky Wagner is a senior BI architect working for US-Analytics. She is an Oracle ACE Associate and a frequent speaker at Oracle and user group conferences including UKOUG, Oracle OpenWorld, and ODTUG Kscope. Becky is an ODTUG volunteer and is the Analytics Community leader. Along with being the Big Data and Data Warehousing Track lead this year, she has helped with ODTUG Kscope17 and ODTUG Kscope18 content selection and was a member of the ODTUG Leadership Program in 2016.
Becky's first ODTUG Kscope was in Chicago in 2016. She has attended every year since and hopes to continue for years to come. Becky commented, “My favorite ODTUG Kscope so far was ODTUG Kscope16 in Chicago, IL. It is where it all started for me! I made worldwide friends, learned new technologies, and skyrocketed my career!"
Each year, Becky comes back to ODTUG Kscope because of the great content and the ability to connect with people who share the same interests. At ODTUG Kscope19, she is excited to see how the Community Night can top last year’s EPM Community’s Lip Sync battle. She said, “Things always seem to get better every year!”
