The purpose of this article is to demonstrate how a little-known feature of Smart View called Smart Slice can be used to build intuitive and interactive ad-hoc reports in an integrated manner. Typically, the Smart View is used for row-column, format-based, ad-hoc analysis and reporting. It is up to the users to use additional MS Office features such as graphs, charts, or tables if they want to view their analysis or report output differently. This may, however, be time-consuming to build and inconvenient to use due to disconnect between the data retrieval and the representation, and moreover it depends on the user’s expertise with MS Office. This is where Smart Slice offers excellent features to build such reports within the single framework.
