Taking Source Filters to the Next Level
Francisco Amores Torres, Infratects

Some source systems such as Universal Data Adapter allow passing parameters to filter out data when importing it into FDMEE. These source filters are defined statically when creating data load rules, but sometimes we have requirements where filter values need to be dynamically passed to the data extract process. During this webinar, we will see how to take source filters to the next level to provide a flexible data extract process.

Translate APEX Project
Aljaž Mali, Abakus Plus, and Przemysław Staniszewski, Pretius

If your Oracle Application Express application uses a language that is not among the 10 languages into which APEX is translated, you must translate messages displayed by the APEX reporting engine. On November 30, 2015, Pretius (www.pretius.com) launched the translate-apex.com website. This project is the collection of free translations of APEX internal messages to help the APEX Community develop applications in something other than 10 default languages. The website allows you to browse translations (over 30 different languages available so far), download installation script for any APEX version starting from 3.0, and share your translation with others. All translations are available for free and have been created by the APEX Community.

At the same time, Aljaz Mali of Abakus Plus was working on an application that helps you to centralize, consolidate, and simplify management of APEX text messages. This application was released during the APEX World conference as part of OraOpenSource project. During this presentation, we will discuss the APEX translation project and how it has connected over 30 APEX developers from all around the world. We will also show practical use of the www.translate-apex.com website and how you can use the APEX translation application to simplify management of APEX text messages and the localization process.

2016 Code Talk Series: Hinding All the Red M&Ms: A Story of Indexes and Full Table Scans
Chris Saxon, Oracle Corporation

Live from Kscope16!

“Why isn’t my query using an index?” is a common question people have when tuning SQL.

This talk explores the factors that influence the optimizer’s decision behind this question. It does so by comparing fetching rows from a database table to finding all the red M&Ms from their bags. It contrasts using an index range scan and a full table scan to do this.

It introduces the concepts of blocks and the clustering factor. It discusses how these affect the optimizer's calculations. It goes on to demonstrate how these concepts work in practice using real SQL queries.

This session is intended for developers and DBAs who want to learn the basics of how the optimizer chooses between an index range or full table scan.

How to Do and Choose Your Best Performance Analysis Strategy
Craig Shallahamer, OraPub

The phone rings. It’s performance again, and users are not happy. What is your next move? What is your strategy to identify the issue, develop solutions, and communicate that to others? That’s what this webinar is all about.

As Oracle DBAs, we have two fundamental performance analysis strategies: time-based and sample-based (ASH). Each strategy has strengths and weaknesses. Knowing these differences and how to exploit them gives you the edge in solving the puzzle.

In this webinar, you’ll get a quick introduction of each strategy, highlighting how they work, their differences, and how to use them. This webinar will be 80% “how to” with live demonstrations (typing) and 20% pure knowledge (slides).
