Spotlight on Japan
By Shinnosuke Akita

The Japan Oracle User Group (JPOUG) was established in 2011 and is primarily focused on the Oracle Database. The first JPOUG event was an "unconference" at Oracle OpenWorld Tokyo 2012. As of May 2017 the group has about 1,000 members. Membership is free.

In Japan, April is the season for entering school. So, every year JPOUG holds the "Oracle Database Entrance Ceremony" targeted at new employees who have just graduated from school or are beginner database engineers. Last year, JPOUG started "JPOUG in 15 Minutes" where presenters get 15 minutes to talk. It is a great way for many people to get the chance to talk, and good for new presenters who can find an hour very daunting.
