ODTUG goes live with Oracle’s Enterprise Planning and Budgeting Cloud Service

Cloud-based finance program allows not-for-profit group to modernize its budgeting

March 12, 2018 | Oracle Development User Tools Group (ODTUG), an Oracle user group community focused on education, announced that it has adopted Oracle’s Enterprise Planning and Budgeting Cloud Service (EPBCS) to manage the organization’s financial reporting and budgeting needs.

The not-for-profit organization, whose mission is to keep its members on the cutting edge of the constantly changing Oracle technology landscape, long wanted to adopt Oracle Corporation’s innovative finance solutions. The primary obstacle to adopting many of Oracle’s products was the large investment required in computing assets. Gary Crisci, a member of ODTUG’s board of directors and the organization’s treasurer, said that in the past, Oracle Corporation’s financial planning software was not within ODTUG’s budget.

“As a not-for-profit organization, ODTUG runs on thin margins,” Crisci explained. “Frankly, the investment in on-premise software licenses, and the expensive hardware the applications run on, just made it something that was out of our reach.”

The paradigm shifted with the availability of Oracle’s cloud solutions. These provide a way for smaller organizations to adopt enterprise-class software without incurring the overhead typically associated with these advanced applications.

Using its strong partnership with Oracle Corporation, ODTUG received a low-cost monthly subscription to gain access to advanced financial planning and analytics that will help the organization manage its operations more efficiently. Jake Turrell, ODTUG board member, explained that adopting the cloud-based system is uniquely suited to the organization.

“As a service organization that runs a large conference, ODTUG requires a solid long-term financial plan,” Turrell said. “PBCS allows our geographically diverse board to stay up-to-date on the organization's key statistics and financials with minimal overhead. The modern interface and intuitive reporting enables quick variance analysis that leads to faster meetings with fewer surprises.”

Faster meetings are one of the many benefits the ODTUG Board of Directors, made up entirely of volunteers, is looking forward to with the new application. Oracle Corporation’s EPBCS provides various tools for stakeholders to see the financial landscape of the organization, particularly by leveraging EPBCS’ visually feature-rich dashboards.

Additional features, such as centralized data forms to capture user input, a powerful calculation engine, and pixel perfect financial reporting, all enable ODTUG to improve the way the organization is managed.

“PBCS has transformed the way ODTUG tracks and manages our budgets and forecasts,” said Natalie Delemar, ODTUG president. “We went from an antiquated Excel-based model that was inefficient and inflexible to an enterprise platform that allows us to easily report and interrogate our financials. What used to take days to produce now takes minutes. The Oracle cloud allowed a small, not-for-profit organization like ours to leverage a world-class enterprise planning system. This enabled us to get faster reporting, better analyses, and gain new insights that help us make better decisions for our organization.”

ODTUG members will see the new application in action during the annual ODTUG Kscope conference being held in Orlando, Fla., June 10-14. ODTUG plans to host a session highlighting the ease with which the application was deployed and share lessons learned with its highly technically adept audience.
