ODTUG Kscope18 Recap Highlights from the week: Community Service Day – On Saturday many of our EPM colleagues arrived a day early to help a local community support organization known as UP Orlando. We broke up into smaller teams and completed work projects ranging from cleaning the facility to sanding, painting, and organizing. Sunday Symposium – Oracle product managers presented several hours of content, covering updates to the EPM cloud suite of products, the EPM product roadmap, and the next on-prem release. We closed out the day by talking about cloud adoption during the EPM Cloud Adoption Customer Panel. Geek Game Night – On Sunday we had a lot of fun during the second annual Geek Game Night, where audience members became contestants and played in ODTUG Kscope’s version of Hollywood Squares. EPM Community Night – Sponsored by KPMG After the general session and happy hour we had a speed networking event followed by an epic lip sync battle. The costumes were hilarious and the lip syncing was top notch! Tuesday Lunch and Learn – Sponsored by Oracle Developer Community The lunch and learn event is always informative, and this year was no exception. Many familiar faces answered tough questions between two different sessions, which included Essbase and EPM Applications. Wednesday Special Event – Sponsored by Applied OLAP, Edgewater Ranzal, MindStream Analytics, and Vertical Edge Consulting Group At the special event we played (many) games, put on helmets, and raced electric cars while enjoying another great venue. This year we went to Andretti in Orlando. Thursday Deep Dive – The EPM community always has a tough choice deciding which sessions to attend. It was true again this year. We had four separate Deep Dives to choose from, including Reporting/Analytics, Essbase and OAC, Financial Close, and Planning. Awards – Many EPM colleagues received awards for great presentations and service, including the Overall Top Speaker Award and the ODTUG 2018 Volunteer Award! Congratulations to all! By Rich Wilkie, Oracle Corporation I have been privileged to work at Hyperion, and now Oracle, for the last 18 years, focusing almost exclusively on the financial close domain. Having been a Micro Control administrator in one of my first jobs, I have extensive experience dealing with the month-end close process. It has been exciting for me to see how far the software has come in its ability to keep pace with new requirements, the need for speed, aiding process flow, advanced reporting requirements, etc. While it may be a repetitive process, it is highly complex and critical for every customer to accurately state performance. So, there is no shortage of pride on our side when we talk about the thousands of customers who are using Oracle’s Financial Close products as part of their critical reporting activities. And as always, it was a true honor to meet all of you at ODTUG Kscope18 (Go Mickey!) and answer questions, listen to feedback, and help keep us all aligned for continued success. Featured Article Building Dynamic ODI Code Using Oracle Metadata Dictionary – Rodrigo Radtke de Souza, Dell Hi all, today’s post will be about how ODI can be used to generate any kind of SQL statements using Oracle metadata tables. We always like to say that ODI is way more than just an ETL tool and that people need to start to think about ODI as a full development platform where you can create any kind of code you wish. Today I’ll describe how we may create a simple (but dynamic) merge statement between two similar tables using an ODI procedure that will read from ALL_CONSTRAINTS, ALL_CONS_COLUMNS, and ALL_TAB_COLS Oracle tables to figure out what to do. We had a fantastic presentation and demos from Oracle Enterprise Performance Management and Oracle Analytics Cloud (Essbase) product management to deliver the latest and greatest in product roadmap, new features, and even a live demonstration. With well over 30 attendees from Bay Area customers and partners, the Meetup planning committee did a fantastic job organizing the event and followed up with a few adult beverages on LinkedIn’s rooftop (with an amazing sunset view)! We kicked off with Kumar Ramaiyer and Victor Belyaev presenting a Deep Dive demo on OAC, showcasing really cool new features like "Excel to Cube in seconds," which allows you to import an Excel spreadsheet and create a cube automatically, without any prerequisite Essbase modeling skills required! Next, Prasad Kulkarni presented a recap of the Planning and EPBCS roadmap from ODTUG Kscope18, which had customers engaged in a healthy discussion on plans and strategy to migrate on-premise Planning applications to the Oracle Cloud. Finally, we had a panel discussion with product management, customers, and partners engaged in a lively debate on topics such as "when is the right time to move to the cloud?’’ and "when should I use PBCS versus EPBCS?" The discussions keep getting better and better. Our next event is scheduled during Oracle OpenWorld on October 25, 2018; we will recap OOW themes and include new live presentations.
