ODTUG invites you and your colleagues to participate in the first ODTUG Oracle Analytics Storytelling Challenge!

Put your Analytics, Data Visualization, and data storytelling skills to the test! This 48-hour contest begins Wednesday, January 29, 2020 at 12 a.m. (PST) and concludes Thursday, January 30, 2020 at 11:59 p.m. (PST). Video submissions will close on January 31, 2020 at 5 p.m. (PST). You/your team will be creating a data story to illustrate insights from a world population data set.

The analyses and stories developed by participants will be created through the ODTUG Oracle Analyt­­­ics Cloud instance (after you sign up an email will be sent within 24 hours to setup your login credentials) and/or Oracle Analytics Desktop. Submissions may be promoted on social media after the completion of the contest.

Contest Video Specifications 

  • Accepted file formats include: mp3, wma, mpg, flv, avi, if you decide to use mp4, mov, wmv, then please zip your file before uploading.
  • You can also submit a Vimeo or YouTube link. 
  • Videos submitted must be less than 1 GB max.  

Data

  • Data will be provided in an .xlsx file format within the ODTUG Oracle Analytics Cloud instance.
  • Contestants may enrich the data with a third-party public data set, provided no license is required.

Guidelines and Rules

  • The analysis and data story must be built using Oracle Analytics Cloud or Oracle Analytics Desktop.
  • Visual library extensions are available to be used.
  • Third-party data science tooling can be used (e.g., R, Python, H20, hand-coded).
  • Each participant will need to record a 3-5-minute presentation-style demo with audio of their findings and data story to share with the judges.
    • Final video contest submissions will be uploaded on this page beginning January 29, 2020.
    • Video should be submitted to one of the following file formats: mp3, wma, mpg, flv, avi, if you decide to use mp4, mov, wmv, then please zip your file before uploading.
    • You can also submit a Vimeo or YouTube link.

 Judging

  • All submitted demos will be reviewed by a panel of judges made up of an ODTUG Oracle Analytics Storytelling Committee member, an ODTUG member, an Oracle Analytics PM, and an outside industry professional.
  • Judgment of the solutions will be made based on the following criteria:
    • 25%       Effectiveness at telling the story, conveying emotions
    • 25%       Use of augmented, advanced analytical features (not just reporting)
    • 25%       Presentation style
    • 25%       Ease of use, design


Prizes

A one-year ODTUG membership, an Oracle Analytics RC car, and a custom bow tie.
