Topic: Application Express
Owner: Timothy St. Hilaire
Date: 2014-06-24
Subtopic: Tips and Techniques

We will cover how cookies can be read, written, debugged, hacked and secured.
The presentation will start with the basic cookie purpose and some examples of how it is currently used in the “wild”. The presentation will continue into the APEX CGI environment and where that comes from. We will discuss how to set cookie values using page processing and on demand processes.
Once cookies are set, we will review debugging and some of the new features of HTMLONLY and secure cookies. Examples of how to enable and enforce secure cookies and HTMLONLY cookies highlighting the shortfall of the OWA_COOKIE api currently released in the database.
The presentation will end demonstrating how cookies can be used to improve the experience of a user across APEX sessions – which is a common when session timeouts are set short.
Users will be able to leave with a demonstration application available for download that shows the concepts and examples from this presentation.
