Planning with ASO: An Implementation Roadmap
Topic: Planning

Hyperion Planning 11.1.2.3 now offers support for ASO databases, but are you ready to implement this exciting new feature? Are you aware of the limitations? Do you have tested workarounds? Can you effectively set the expectations of your end-users? This session will provide an implementation roadmap that will highlight:

- A live demo of Hyperion Planning 11.1.2.3 with an ASO Plan Type.
--- This live demo will take the form of a Workforce Planning-like application with a very large employee dimension.
--- The application will demonstrate several of the same calculations used in Workforce Planning, but in an ASO Plan Type.

- Implementation steps and best practices.

- A review of Planning’s ASO limitations, including but not limited to:
--- Planning does not support running business rules against an ASO Plan Type.
--- Planning does not support member formulas in an ASO Plan Type.
--- Planning does not support dynamic time series in an ASO Plan Type.
--- Planning does not support the creation of Essbase security filters against an ASO Plan Type.
--- Planning does not support Approvals in an ASO Plan Type if an approval dimension is missing.
--- Planning does not support ASO Plan Types in EPMA apps. “Limitation” or “Feature” . . . you decide.
--- ASO Plan Type licensing requirements.

- Creative workarounds for these limitations.
--- How to simulate running a business rule against an ASO Plan Type.
--- How to load member formulas to an ASO Plan Type.
--- How to “roll your own” dynamic time series in an ASO Plan Type.
--- How to “roll your own” Essbase security filters AND keep them in sync with Hyperion Planning security.
--- How to accommodate Approvals with an ASO Plan Type.
--- There are no creative workarounds for the licensing requirements . . . unless you’re a thief.

- How to correctly set end-user expectations with regard to these new features.
--- Getting “creative” is rarely cheap, fast or easy.

Attendees will leave this session with a solid understanding of Planning’s new ASO features and limitations, as well as a host of best practices. Attendees will receive documented code samples and a full LCM export of the demo application.
