ODTUG Oracle Analytics Storytelling Challenge
Back by popular demand, ODTUG invites you and your colleagues to participate in the second ODTUG Oracle Analytics Storytelling Challenge!
Put your Analytics, Data Visualization, and data storytelling skills to the test! This week-long contest will take place August 24-28, 2020. Challenge submissions will close on August 28, 2020 at 5 p.m. (PST). You/your team will be creating a data story to illustrate insights from a data set provided by ODTUG.
The analyses and stories developed by Data Storytellers will be created through the ODTUG Oracle Analytics Cloud instance (after you sign up an email will be sent by Oracle with instructions to set up your login credentials), Oracle Analytics Server, or Oracle Analytics Desktop. You're encouraged to promote submissions on social media after the completion of the contest using #OracleAnalytics and #ODTUGchallenge!

About the Contest
The contest is carried out in Oracle Analytics Cloud. The use of Autonomous Data Warehouse (ADW) and Oracle Machine Learning (OML) are encouraged but not required. Credentials for accessing all three services are provided to you or your team before the start of the challenge.
Guidelines and Rules
- The analysis and data story must be built using Oracle Analytics Cloud, Oracle Analytics Server, or Oracle Analytics Desktop.
- Visual library extensions will be preloaded and available for use.
- Custom Map Layer visualizations are encouraged.
- Usage of OML in the provisioned ADW database is also encouraged.
- Third-party data science tooling can be used (e.g., R, Python, H20, hand-coded).
- Participants are encouraged to enrich the dataset with additional datasets. The permissions to additional datasets need to be extended to the panel of judges for their access.
- Development of Project may be done in My Folder.
- Final Submission must be copied into Shared Folder within the Oracle Analytics Cloud instance.
- Each submission will take the form of uploading your project (.dva file) to the ODTUG Oracle Analytics Cloud instance.
- Participants will need to schedule a 5-10 minute Zoom submission video call with the ODTUG judging committee.
- Participants should use Calendly to schedule the Zoom submission call. Entrants will be given further details regarding this.
Judging
- All submissions will be reviewed by a panel of judges made up of an ODTUG Oracle Analytics Storytelling Committee member, an ODTUG member, and an outside industry professional.
- The judgment of the solutions will be made based on the following criteria:
- 25% Effectiveness at telling the story and presentation style, conveying emotions
- 25% Use of augmented, advanced analytical features (like extensions, mapping, not just reporting)
- 25% Innovation and Creativity
- 25% Ease of use
