Data Warehousing in the Real World
Kent Graziano, Snowflake Computing

At a former health-care client, we were not able to implement a pure Data Vault 2.0 architecture. Instead, we had to evolve a hybrid solution that uses Type 2 persistent stage tables we tie together using standard Hub and Link structures along with a Key Map table. While we have been able to utilize DV 2.0 concepts such as MD5 hash keys, in order to avoid joins in loading the stage tables we had to come up with a way to resolve the business keys further into the process. We will show you our solution and discuss the pros and cons of our approach.

How to Make FDMEE-Triggered Essbase Calculation and Partition Scripts Targeted to Current FDMEE Loads
Bernard Ash, EPM Clarity

Optimize FDMEE performance with Essbase by making all your operations more focused. When your customer’s requirements ask you to use FDMEE to load over 800,000 records per entity for one month, convert YTD to MTD, convert local currency to USD, and then push to an ASO reporting cube, it’s time to break out the big guns. Large data volumes or not, why not parameterize ALL your FDMEE-driven calc scripts based on the entities that are in a given load file? Why not do the same with a partition script that refreshes the data to a reporting cube after it has been loaded and calc’d in BSO? In this live, hands-on demo, we will use Jython to identify the distinct entities in a given data load (TDATASEG table) and pass these entities to a MaxL script to manage the focus of the calcs and partition scripts. This functionality is live at Cigna.

2016 CodeTalk Series: The NoPL/SQL and Thick Database Methods: Which One Do You Think Needs a Bigger Database Server?
Chris Saxon and Toon Koppelaars, Oracle Corporation

Toon Koppelaars recently conducted an experiment comparing the performance of different ways of implementing a specific task. The NoPL/SQL approach treats the database as no more than a persistence layer, using only naive single-row SQL statements; it implements all business logic outside of it. The thick database approach treats the database as a processing engine; it uses a combination of sophisticated set-based SQL statements and PL/SQL to implement all business logic inside it. In this session, Chris and Toon investigate Toon’s findings and discuss their implications for database development. This session is a must-watch for anyone who builds applications using Oracle Database.

Incredible ODI Tips to Work with Hyperion Tools
Rodrigo Radtke, Dell, and Ricardo Giampaoli, Teracorp

ODI is an incredible and flexible development tool that goes beyond simple data integration, but most of its development power comes from outside-the-box ideas.

  • Did you ever want to have only one interface and loop any number of ODI objects with a lot of control?
  • Did you ever need to have a "third command tab" in your procedures or KMs to improve ODI powers?
  • Did you ever want to have only one data store and loop different sources without the need for different ODI contexts?
  • Do you use "dynamic variables" and know how powerful they can be?

If you want to know the answer to all these questions, please join us in this webinar to learn the special secrets of ODI that will take your development skills to the next level.
