Deploying and Developing Application Express with Oracle Database 12c
Jason Straub, Oracle Corporation

The latest release of the Oracle database introduces a new architecture called Oracle Multitenant Architecture. This architecture allows for fast provisioning of new databases, fast redeployment, patching and upgrades, and more efficient use of system resources through pluggable databases (PDBs) connected to a single container database (CDBs). Most management operations are done to the CDB, which also then affects the PDBs plugged in, making administration easier. There are also a number of new features in all Oracle 12c databases that are of interest to Application Express developers.

This session will give an introduction to the Oracle Multitenant Architecture and discuss its impact on Application Express installations. An overview will be given on the distinct installation options available for Application Express in the multitenant architecture and cover upgrade and patching scenarios. The session will end with other new Oracle Database 12c features and their impact on Application Express developers.

Shaping Your APEX Development Process
Nick Buytaert, Contribute

Software development with Oracle Application Express is by no means affiliated with enterprise web development. Oracle itself positions APEX as a so-called rapid application development tool but recommends other products as soon as projects get larger and more complex. I honestly believe, however, that APEX has the potential to cope with these large-scale projects. But – there’s always a but – you need more than just plain APEX.

That’s where this webinar comes into play. We have managed to incorporate a set of powerful tools in our day-to-day development process. These tools, in combination with APEX, allow teams to build high-quality database applications in a professional way.

Build automation is the keyword here. It takes no more than a single click on a button to deploy your changes from environment A to environment B. During this demo-driven webinar, I’ll explain how you can take advantage of the above tools and how they work together. No prerequisite knowledge is required.

Developing Mobile Web Applications with Oracle Application Express
Marc Sewtz, Oracle Corporation

Smartphones and tablets are now commonly used throughout the enterprise. Thanks to easy-to-use mobile apps, ready access to the Internet, and widespread use of web- and cloud-based applications, mobile devices are a logical choice for many employees. Businesses need to respond to these trends by modernizing their public-facing websites for mobile use and providing employees with access to in-house applications that support a variety of different devices and screen sizes. Solely building for desktop use and standardizing on IE only won’t cut it anymore.

Oracle Application Express (APEX) provides you with powerful tools to quickly and efficiently build mobile web apps and easily extend your existing desktop applications for mobile use. Regardless of whether these applications were built with APEX or use other technologies—as long as they’re running on top of an Oracle Database, APEX will enable you to quickly build mobile apps that provide access to your data and interact with your business processes.

During this session, we’ll discuss mobile development trends and responsive web design, walk you through the basics of the jQuery Mobile framework, and provide you with an overview of the mobile development capabilities built into the current release of Oracle Application Express 4.2. We will include several live demos to get you started, so have your phone or tablet ready to try out our sample apps as they are being built.
