The Power of UDAs, Substitution Variables, and Attribute Dimensions

Subtopic: Tips and Techniques

My goal with this presentation is to give the users that are just starting out, or that may have attended the beginner sessions last year, something else to build upon.

I will plan to show the following uses of UDAs:
- how they can be used within an outline and security filters to open/close forecast
- how they can be used within security filters to restrict access to specific members in a hierarchy
- how they can be used within an export calc script to focus the calc on specific members
- how they can be used within a more complicated calc script to focus the calc on specific members, so that you do not need to calculate the entire dimension
- show how easy it is to load UDA's into an outline using a simple load rule and text file

Attribute Dimmensions
- explain in general how attribute dimensions work and show a comparison, of using an attribute dimension to achieve the same results as a UDA ( I haven't done this part yet - so I'll need to do some exploring to see what can be done with the attribute dimension, vs what I've already done with the UDAs)
- show how to load Attributes into an outline using a load rule (I'm assuming this is doable - will figure it out)

Substitution Variables
- show how they can be used for storing values used in calc scripts
- show how they can be used to store version control for excel files
- show how they can be used in load rules
- etc.

MAXL
- show examples of how you can set substitution variables within MAXL and then call Calc scripts, load rules, etc.
