Campaign Statement

I seek your vote for reelection to the ODTUG Board of Directors so that I may continue to actively establish and maintain ODTUG as the center of excellence for Oracle developers.

ODTUG has a spark, an indescribable vibe that you just don’t find at other user groups or conferences. We are technical, committed, passionate, and fun. Something happens when top technical experts and Oracle product teams combine, elbow to elbow to share and talk tech. As an ODTUG director, my job is to make sure that spark continues.

There are many challenges—engaging members, conference attendance, leading (not bleeding) edge content, member recruitment, quality technical content, marketing what-where-when-howthat combine to keep the ODTUG difference alive. That quality, that vibe, is our distinctionODTUG is the best resource for Oracle developers. It takes work to keep it that way. And I love doing that unsung behind-the-scenes work. I have gained from ODTUG, I am happy to give back.

How developers work and learn continues to evolve—ODTUG must keep pace by delivering practical advice and training on legacy and emerging technologies at novice through expert levels.

As a senior ODTUG member, developer and consultant, I bring a quiet, steady, long-term perspective to the Board that is needed to balance the enticements of the “next new thing” with the need to deliver practical, get-the-work-done knowledge to our members. Please support my reelection to the ODTUG Board of Directors.

Questions

If you could describe ODTUG in 10 words or less, what would they be?

ODTUG is the center of technical excellence for Oracle developers.

What motivates you to join the ODTUG Board of Directors?

I wish to continue to steer ODTUG forward. Having served ODTUG as a 2017-2018 board member, technical journal editor, Oracle ACE, conference material reviewer, and long-time volunteer in many other capacities, I have the experience, drive, and depth of knowledge to guide ODTUG onward. I want to keep that ODTUG spark alive.

How developers consume and share knowledge has changed, what knowledge developers need to consume is evolving rapidly. ODTUG needs to continue adapting to reach, welcome, educate, and energize developers at all levels.

We face some tough issuesconference attendance, recruiting active volunteers, maintaining technical excellence, embracing new technologies while delivering practical content. These may seem like basics, but are challenging to implement within real-life time and resource constraints. Strategic planning is essential to keep our communities relevant and vibrant. I have the ODTUG experience to wisely address such issues and the motivation to carry effective initiatives to completion.

What attributes do you bring to this position?

- Insight on developer needs and challenges gained via 30+ years of development experience across large and small companies, government and private, large to single-person development teams.

- Experience with ODTUG ongoing tasks: Leadership Program, emerging technologies, marketing, non-conference opportunities, content selection, and future ventures.
- Insight on user group operations gained as an ODTUG Board member and over 13 years volunteering at local, regional, and national user groups as reviewer, monitor, conference committee member, presenter, attendee, and editor. As a board member I will have greater ability to solicit more content in more diverse formats.
- An eye for timely, quality material on the latest Oracle tools, honed through 8 years as technical journal editor for IOUG and ODTUG, as an author, a reviewer, and as a consumer.

- Above all, quiet steadfast persistence to get tasks done, even the less glorious ones.

Do you have a principal goal you would like to achieve as a board member?

Greater diversity of technical content to our members, combined with greater visibility and accessibility to:

- New practical technical material, novice to advanced
- Volunteer opportunities
- Networking opportunities in and out of ODTUG Kscope
- Growth and mentoring opportunities
- Meetups, conferences, and webinars

I believe that a greater diversity of content, implemented wisely, can attract new and energize existing members. Energized members volunteer, and active volunteers are what make the ODTUG difference.

Campaign Statement

Hello (again), ODTUG! For the past two years it has been my privilege to serve you on the board of directors, an experience that has only deepened my appreciation for the ways ODTUG benefits us as members. ODTUG has taught me the value of knowledge sharing, deep personal networks, and especially the power of community. I have learned through the peer education that ODTUG supports, gained colleagues and friends across the globe, and seen the positive impact ODTUG has on all of us. Without ODTUG—and most importantly without you, my fellow members—none of this would have happened. I am grateful, and I continue to be ODTUG’s biggest fan.

I've shown my appreciation to ODTUG and the community of fellow technologists through serving as:

• Kscope11-18 Presenter
• Kscope13 Track Team Member

• Kscope16/17 EPM/BI Content Chair
• Kscope18/19 Conference Committee Member
• Meetup Host
• ODTUG OpenWorld Content Coordinator
• Director
• Liaison for the EPM Community

Lots of work, yes, but it's the least I can do to show how important ODTUG is to me, professionally and personally. Serving you in these roles has been my pleasure and honor, and I want to continue this service. I believe that I have a deep understanding of both what makes ODTUG so great and what makes Kscope such a success. I hope I can earn your vote and continue to represent all of you, in every Community, by helping to lead ODTUG into the future.

Campaign Statement

I have been using Oracle products since version 2. I've served companies like Legg Mason, Blue Cross, Westinghouse, Lockheed Martin, Raytheon, and SAIC. Spending half of my time in the commercial sector and the last half in the public sector, I see opportunities to strengthen the user community and to continue to fortify cyber security and protect ourselves and companies from terrorists and pirates.
I have worked on incorporating analytics into every aspect of Oracle’s solution stack. The aim has been to provide actionable intelligence as close to real-time as is realistic. Many of the efforts have been successful, leading to saving lives and money. I have never had the time to contribute to ODTUG, consuming the benefits of this organization. Now, I’m prepared to give back.

The user community needs to guide Oracle's innovation.

Campaign Statement

Hello fellow ODTUGers!

My introduction to ODTUG was in 2013, where I first learned of it while searching for a solution to a problem I was having with a PL/SQL script.

New to the nomination and election process for ODTUG, but not new to working hard as a volunteer for this organization, I ask for your consideration to allow me to now serve you as a board member.

I was accepted into the ODTUG Leadership Program in 2014. From there, I became involved in the Database community, helped with the quarterly newsletter, social media promotion, and organizing the community night for Kscope. In 2014, 2015, and 2016 I served on the abstract review committee for the Database track, where I, along with a team of other database experts, poured over hundreds of abstract submissions to bring you what we felt was the best content we could for the conference where "content is king". I presented at Kscope16 and Kscope17, and in 2018 I was honored to be asked to serve as Database track lead for Kscope18 and Kscope19.

Along with my ODTUG duties, I am the vice president of the Network for Women with Careers in Technology (NWCT) in Philadelphia, the city's oldest WIT organization.

Giving back to the communities I am a part of is central to who I am as a person, and I hope you'll give me the opportunity to serve the ODTUG membership by placing your confidence in me with your vote.
