ODTUG Kscope - How to Create a Winning Abstract

The ODTUG Kscope26 call for abstracts is open! Submissions must be provided by 11:59 PM (eastern) on November 1. The abstract submission window is shorter than years past, so plan accordingly. Late submissions will not be considered. No exceptions.

Whether you're a new submitter or a seasoned Kscope Speaker, there are a few tips and tricks that will help  you present your ideas most effectively for consideration. Kscope abstracts are submitted via Sessionboard, ODTUG's speaker management portal. Start here.

The portal welcome page provides thorough event details. Please note that there will be a second submission window for Community Keynote presentations - now is not the time for those ideas. The Kscope26 Content Committee is looking for educational sessions on all topics. Here are a few key points:

  • Sessions will be 50-60 minutes in length. Please prepare accordingly.
  • Speakers receive a full conference pass. Co-presenters do not. The person listed as primary speaker in the abstract will receive the complementary pass, if selected.
  • There are a number of desired topics for presentation, including Analytics, AI, & OCI, Database Development & APEX, and EPM including Essbase and Netsuite. Learn more about the tracks here.
  • The abstract submission title must be 255 characters or less.
  • When submitting your abstract, please note that the description is written for attendees. This is what will be shown in the session schedule, and should be compelling enough to convince attendees to join your session.
  • The abstract should be written for the content review team, and should describe what attendees will learn from your presentation. (Hint: go heavy on concepts, outcomes of the presentation, and benefits to the listener)
  • If your session could align with multiple tracks, select your track based on your primary topic.
  • Tags will be assigned to accepted sessions to highlight areas of interest / cross-track collaboration. This will help attendees filter the conference agenda to find their desired presentations.
  • If you have a brief video that provides a high-level outline of your topic, you'll be able to include it.

If you've never presented at a Kscope conference, this may feel like a lot of information. Don't be intimidated! The more you know about the process, the easier it is to follow, and with a higher possibility of being selected.

If you've submitted abstracts for past Kscopes and have not been selected, you may want to take advantage of a coaching session to improve your submission for Kscope26. Feel free to e-mail ODTUG and ask for an abstract coaching session.

Best of luck to all submitters!
