How to Use an AWR/Statspack Report to Tune Oracle Systems
 ACE Director.jpg Craig Shallahamer, Orapub

Life is good, until the phone rings and it's a performance issue. Most DBAs will immediately run an AWR or Statspack report. That's fine, but there is bad news. Most DBAs will also either stare at the report and freeze, start paging through the report looking for something, or post the report on a forum. None of these solutions are career-enhancing maneuvers.

The really good news is this presentation will teach you how to take an AWR report or a Statspack report and extract only the information you need, build a diagnostic framework to expose the biggest tuning opportunities, and then develop solutions that directly address them.

This step-by-step process can be used on any Oracle version, architecture, or configuration—cloud or on-premises. It's fast, it works, and it rocks! Join me as we explore how to quickly find solutions to the real performance problems.

Self-Driving Metadata: Automating Metadata Management with PBCS, FCCS, & OAC
 Abhi Nerurkar, EPMware

Nobody wants to bear the burden of manually loading metadata to all your cloud and on-prem applications. Centralization of a metadata management process reduces errors and frees up costly admin and managed services time for real application enhancements. Join EPMware to explore the integrations behind the most popular Oracle Cloud applications, and learn how to automate common metadata tasks among your Hyperion stack.

Continuous Data Replication into Cloud Storage with Oracle GoldenGate
 ACE Director.jpgMichael Rainey, Snowflake Computing

Continuous flow. Streaming. Near real-time. These are all terms used to identify a business’s need for quick access to data. It’s a common request, even if the data must flow from on-premises to the cloud. Oracle GoldenGate is the data replication solution built for fast data. In this session, we’ll look at how GoldenGate can be configured to extract transactions from the Oracle database and load them into a cloud object store, such as Amazon S3. There are many different use cases for this type of continuous load of data into the cloud. We’ll explore these solutions and the various tools that can be used to access and analyze the data from the cloud object store, leaving attendees with ideas for implementing a full source-to-cloud data replication solution.

Maximizing Your Analytics Impact: Why Your Most Critical Data Set Might Be Analytics Usage
 Matthew Halliday, Incorta

Amidst the frenzy and pressure to roll out advanced analytics and dashboards—and the corresponding obstacles presented by common data warehouse approaches—most companies don’t have the time or resource bandwidth to consider analytics usability as a key data source. But it should be.

That’s because true competitive differentiation only comes to those who understand which analytics-driven insights are used, how they’re used, the transactional details behind the insights, and if those insights truly help business users do their jobs and do them well. By viewing usability data as an additional data source and linking it with the corresponding transactional data, you analyze your analytics through the eyes of its consumers and continually optimize it for improved insights.

Top 10 Ways to Totally Mess Up an AWR Analysis
 ACE Director.jpg Craig Shallahamer, Orapub

You think you have seen it all...and then you see something new. I have studied hundreds of AWR reports and thought through thousands of performance scenarios. While I know how to use an AWR or Statspack report to analyze Oracle performance, I have also learned how to totally mess up the analysis.

There are some obvious ways to totally invalidate your analysis. But there are also some subtle mess ups that fool you into thinking your time-based analysis is rock solid when it's worthless and probably misleading.

Join me for a lighthearted session as we explore what NOT to do.

Buzzword Breakdown – Blockchain, Big Data, IoT, Machine Learning
 Tom Blakeley, Performance Architects

Blockchain, Big Data, IoT, Machine Learning, AI: People throw around these buzzwords so much, we all think that everyone knows what they're doing, but they don't! This session aims to give participants a “safe space” to learn, a foundational knowledge of the technical lingo we hear daily, and a sense of what it might mean for the future. We will tie this in with technology and functional processes to help better understand their potential impact—and how we might decide to use one of them seriously!
