ODTUG Volunteer Opportunities

ODTUG offers a number of ways to get involved with our member communities and committees. Volunteers may apply for most roles, although some are elected or appointed. For example:

Elected Volunteer Roles

  • Board of Directors Member - elected by the ODTUG Community
  • Board of Directors Officer - elected by the ODTUG Board

Board-Appointed Volunteer Roles

  • Board Sub-Committee Chair
  • Board Sub-Committee Members
  • Leadership Program Liaison (who may then appoint their own Leadership Program Coordinator)

The majority of ODTUG Volunteer Roles can be done virtually, however there are some that require in-person or on-site participation. Board Sub-Committee Chair

Board appointed role to lead a specific sub committee, in charge of coordinating the sub committee meetings, picks sub committee members, follows up on activities to be completed, reports to the board on progress. 2-4 hrs per month plus Kscope attendance
Board Sub-Committee Member

Support the sub committee goals, share ideas based on prior experience. 2 hours per month

All Community Volunteers are available for public application.

Community Lead Lead ODTUG community activities throughout the year, monthly call, build the community engagement team. 6 - 8 hrs/month
Community Social Media Coordinator Increase social media engagement for the respective community. 4 hrs/month
Community Newsletter Coordinator Compile content for the monthly/quarterly community newsletter. 2 - 8 hrs/month
Community Content Contributor Write content, encourage other members to share content in blogs. 4 - 6 hrs/month
Community Meetup Regional Lead Engage regional meetup hosts throughout the year. 2 - 4 hrs/month
Community Meetup Hosts Host meetups: pick a location, speakers, sponsors. 

4 - 10 hrs/quarter (Virtual + Onsite)

Community Meetup Media Guru Take videos, photos of the meetup. Post them on social media and tag ODTUG for repost/share.  2 hrs/month (Onsite)

Many of the Kscope volunteer roles are available for public application, however some are appointed as noted below.

ODTUG Booth Captain

Recruit and coordinate booth volunteers and schedule throughout the conference. 2 hrs/month, 8 hrs at Kscope (Virtual + Onsite)
ODTUG Booth Ambassador Share their volunteer experience, talk to participants, recruit volunteers. 3hrs (Onsite)
Session Ambassador Greet the speaker, distribute and collect feedback forms, reminds participants to fill in online survey. Act as a runner to find the right contact if AV and other issues occur. 1 - 4 hrs (Onsite)
Public Abstract Reviewer Public review and voting for Kscope abstracts for selected Kscope track. 1 - 8 hrs (Virtual)
Content Abstract Reviewer

Reviews Kscope abstract by track. 10 - 12hrs (Virtual, Jan-Feb)
Content Committee Track Lead

Coordinates Kscope abstract track teams, content review meetings, track movements. 30 - 40 hrs (Virtual, Dec - Apr)
Executive Committee Content Chair
(Appointed by KEO)
KEO-directed Role. Coordinates track leads, collection of all track team selections and scheduling, coordination of all schedule changes. Responsible for all Thursday sessions. Responsible for community focused events. 60 - 200 hrs (Virtual + Onsite, Oct - July)
Executive Committee Vendor Chair
(Appointed by KEO)
KEO-directed Role. Maintain vendor relationships, recruit new vendors, work closely with YCC to ensure a great vendor experience. 60 - 200 hrs (Virtual + Onsite, Oct - July)

KEO-directed Role. Focus on attendee experience, and attend Kscope events. 60 - 200 hrs (Virtual + Onsite, Oct - July)

Kicks off Leadership Program in partnership with YCC, determines timeline, suggests coordinator choices to the ODTUG Board. 4-8 hrs per month plus Kscope attendance

Puts together program content, finds speakers, arranges meetings, identify & book all. 4-8 hrs per month plus Kscope attendance

WIT Volunteers are either sponsored or appointed. Mentors may apply at any time.

WIT Lunch & Learn at Kscope - Organizers

If there are no sponsors for this event,  2+ volunteers will be needed to organize the WIT Lunch and Learn event, select WIT topics of discussion, select table leads. 2-4 hrs per month ahead of Kscope, plus Kscope attendance
WIT Lunch & Learn Table Lead at Kscope
(Appointed by WIT Sponsors/Organizers)
Facilitate table discussion topics with Kscope attendee participants. 3-4 hours training plus Kscope Attendance and luncheon participation.
WIT Mentorship Program Lead 
(Appointed by ODTUG Board)
Coordinates the WIT Mentorship program kickoff, participants recruiting process, monthly checks with the mentors and mentees. 4-10 hrs per quarter
WIT Mentorship Program 
(Public application / appointed)
Mentor /  be mentored by another ODTUG member. Meet once per month for at least six months. 1 hour per month
